FAQ
Why elaskon lubricants?
Elaskon has been supplying secondary wire rope lubricants to ski resort and passenger ropeway operators for over 10 years. These products are designed with a focus on quality, penetration and corrosion prevention and offered at competitive pricing to other wire rope lubricants. Elaskon is a leader in providing rope manufacturers primary lubricants used during the rope manufacturing process and their maintenance lubrication products are designed off their primary lubricants.
why apply secondary lubrication to wire ropes?
Testing and field experience have shown that proper re-lubrication of wire ropes increases the number of bending cycles the rope can be exposed to, increasing services life. It is an essential annual maintenance task that very cost effectively increases the service life of ropes.
WHY NOT CASTOR OIL?
CASTOR OIL is not a suitable lubricant for annual or biannual wire rope lubrication. The oil is very viscous and is not able penetrate in to rope to provide efficient strand on strand lubrication. The oil will gum up and dry out at which point it will stop repelling water infiltration into the rope and trap moisture in. Castor Oil is not good at providing lubrication in low temperatures which ski resort operators hope to have. Vegetable based oil lubricants have poor oxidative stability compared to petroleum derived lubricants. Many ropeway ropes lubricated with Castor Oil look great on the exterior surface due to the constant running of the rope, but internally the rope will show a lot of corrosion after years of operation
What is the Automatic rope oiler
The Automatic Rope Oiler is a product designed to safely provide constant lubrication to passenger ropeways, decreasing downtime and increasing rope life. Please inquire by email for more information.
How often should ropes be lubricated?
General guidelines call for haul ropes and track ropes to be re-lubricated a minimum of annually and counterweight ropes and splice tucks to be re-lubricated monthly. Local weather conditions and high operating hours can increase the demand for re-lubrication. Please email us for general lubrication guidelines.
